Biography:
Spectacle maker in Middelburg (Kapoenstraat). In 1608 he applied for a patent for “a certain instrument for seeing far” (a spyglass), but the States General in The Hague didn't grant him this patent, because some others also knew the secret how to make these instruments. Eventually Lipperhey was commissioned by the Staten Generaal to make three binocular telescopes.
