Tegenover de aula van de Vrije Universiteit bevindt zich een herdenkingsmonument met daarop de namen van de oorlogsslachtoffers van de Vrije Universiteit. Over dit monument verschijnt het boek Een oorlogsplaquette ontrafeld. Het herdenkingsmonument 1940-1945 van de Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam (Amsterdam: Boom 2020). De presentatie van dit boek vindt plaats op 1 april 2020.
