Op vrijdag 3 maart zal dr. ir. Fokko Jan Dijksterhuis  zijn ambt als bijzonder hoogleraar aan de VU aanvaarden met het uitspreken van zijn oratie ‘Werelden van vernuft. Denken over kennis in de vroegmoderne tijd.’ Dijksterhuis bekleedt de nieuw ingestelde leerstoel ‘Ideeëngeschiedenis van de vroegmoderne tijd’ die is ingesteld door de Dr. C. Report: Parchment, Paper, Pixels. International conference in Maastricht, 2-3 February 2017

On 2 and 3 February a small group of (mostly) manuscript researchers convened in Maastricht to share papers on a subject which has already been the topic of many conferences: digital tools for manuscript scholars. Nevertheless, some really interesting and inspiring contributions were on the program. Overall, what struck me is that multiple speakers were not afraid to characterize their endeavours to ‘do something digital’ with their data had actually failed, mostly because they underestimated the step between presenting the data in a digital format and making them understandable and usable for colleagues (Peter Stokes). Call for Nominations: Ranald McDonald Award (Deadline: 11 July 2017)

The international Ranald MacDonald Award will be annually granted to a preferably ‘young’, writer and/or artist for their ‘first’ work in the public domain. The work should shed new light on the relations between Asia, Europe and/or North America. The board will assess the nominations on the basis of their ‘Beauty, Goodness and Truth’. The award amounts to 5,000 Euros and will be announced every October 11. Lees meer…
