Biography:
Scientific instrument maker in Leiden; became an apprentice of Anthony Hoevenaar on 22 July 1655. His father Jan Jansz Block was a carpenter. At the time of his marriage in 1671 he was registered as a 'slotenmaker' in the Coppenhinksteeg, so he probably left the instrument makers trade at some time to become a locksmith.
