Biography:
Ahasuerus Fromanteel (1640-1703) was the son of the famous London clockmaker Ahasuerus Fromanteel sr. Fromanteel was apprenticed to Lionel Wyth in 1654, later to Simon Bertram and established himself in London. IAround 1681 he started a clockmakers shop at the Vijgendam in Amsterdam with his brother John. His brother Abraham frequently visited them and kept the contact between Amsterdam and London. In 1694 Fromanteel's daughter married the clockmaker Christopher Clarke. It is not clear if the firm from then on came to be known as Fromanteel & Clarke or only after the death of Ahasuerus, when the firm was continued by Clarke, probably still working together with Abraham Fromanteel.
